Clip In Hair Extensions Q&A

Marquesa Hair have a wide and beautiful range of clip in hair extensions produced in a variety of natural colors, lengths, textures and grades that should blend perfectly with your hair.

Clip in hair extensions are temporary, interchangeable hair extensions that you can “clip on” to your natural hair. The advantages of using clip in extensions as opposed to professionally applied hair extensions are that you can play around with different colors and looks without the need for professional application. Professionally applied hair extensions are semi-permanent – lasting for approximately three months – and as such cannot be interchanged with ease.

Change your look for less

Clip in hair extensions are a lot less expensive than professionally applied extensions, so you can experiment with new styles and colors at much less cost. Have a new look every week and intrigue your friends!

Looking after your clip-ins

Clip in extensions are washable

Due to the clip in extensions’ high quality and durability you can wash and wear them to your hearts content. Keeping your hair extensions clean and well maintained is of course important and you can do this much the same as you would do with your normal hair.

However, whilst performing any cleaning or straightening on your extensions do not do so with them attached to your hair – your clip ons are attached to much less of your hair than are the professional ones so the hair is carrying more weight and could be damaged by additional strain.

The easy solution to this is to get a friend to hold them up as you wash or straighten your hair, do this just as you would with your normal hair using shampoo and conditioner, or if straightening a pair of straightening irons or blow drying whilst using a round brush.

  2. No, this is not advisable at all. The clips used to apply your new hair extensions are not safe to leave in your hair whilst sleeping. This could also be quite uncomfortable for you when sleeping.
  1. Can I cut my clip-in hair extensions?
  2. Yes you can but it is advisable to ask your hairdresser to do this for you, your hairdresser is skilled in cutting hair and clip-in hair extensions require the same skill as cutting your own natural hair. 1. Can I straighten my clip-in hair extensions using straightening irons or blow-dry them with a round brush?
  2. Yes you can. It is important to do this with the clip-in extensions not attached to your hair. Ask a friend to help hold each clip-in extension whilst you straighten the hair using either straightening irons when dry or blow drying with a round brush when damp.
The reason why it is important not to do this whilst your extensions are in your hair is because clip-in extensions are not the same as professionally applied hair extensions. They are applied to less of your hair than the equivalent amount of hair weight with professionally applied extensions. In short, your hair is supporting more weight using clip-in hair extensions. This is perfectly safe providing you follow the instructions.
  1. How do I choose Straight or wavy clip in hair extensions?
  2. This is really is down to you, wavy is best unless you hair is dead straight, or if you constantly straighten your hair and do not like the slightly wavy look.

  2. Yes you can. Any products that are suitable for human or synthetic hair will be compatible with your clip-in extensions.

Can my hair extensions be straightened?

Yes! Clip in hair extensions are made with human hair. It is best to always use a heat protection product before applying heat to the extensions. Just like our own hair, the less heat you use the better.

How are the hair extensions attached?

The hair extensions are made of strips of real human hair, each strip is a specific size and has micro clips already attached to them. The clips are pressure sensitive and clipped into the hair between sections. This ensures they are hidden, secure and natural looking.

How often can I wear my extensions?

As often as you like, just remember to take them out before sleeping to prolong their life. The clip ins can last up anything from 6 – 12 months depending on how often you wear them and care for them.

Are the clip ins easy to look after?

VERY EASY, just look after them as if they were your own.

Will people be able to see if I am wearing hair extensions?

The beauty of clip in extensions is the natural look that can be achieved with them. Once fitted, they are a perfect blend with your own hair.

How long does my hair need to be to wear Clip in Extensions?

The shortest you hair should be for best results can be min of 4 – 6 inches long. Hair any shorter than this will not be able to hide the clips.

How long do they take to put into my hair?

They should take roughly 5 – 10minutes to put in. Like anything, the more you do it the quicker you will get at it. Just think how long it would take you to grow your hair this long?

How long will the hair last?

The better you look after your extensions the longer they will last. We use the best quality Remy human hair so depending on use and as long as you apply heat protection spray when using hot tools they could last 2 – 3 years. We also recommend that you regularly use deep conditioning treatments on your hair. Moroccan oil is a great treatment to use on your extensions as it provides much needed nutrients and natural oils to moisturize the extensions as they don’t receive natural oils from you scalp like your natural hair does.

How do they attach to my hair?

They clip in under your hair by small snap on clips that have been sewn onto the extensions. The clips we use have a silicone insert so they don’t slip off or damage your hair. They are less than 1 inch wide and are the similar color as your extensions so they blend in perfectly to your natural hair. The clips don’t pull at your hair and will not ruin your natural hair at all.

What type of hair do you use?

We use 100% Remy Human Hair.

Will clip in extensions ruin my hair?

Absolutely not. Extensions, which are glued or sewn in, can ruin your natural hair. Clip-in extensions won’t ruin your hair at all.

Can I wash my hair extensions?

Yes you can but not while the clips are attached your head. Remove them first then wash them with shampoo and conditioner just as you would with your natural hair. It is also best to use a deep conditioning treatment such as Moroccan oil washing your extensions, as the extensions don’t get the naturals oils from your hair.

Can I cut my extensions?

Yes you can but we recommend you get your hairdresser to do this for you.

Can I swim with my hair extensions in?

You sure can. Nothing is sexier than a girl coming out of the ocean with wet long hair with a sexy swimsuit. Guys will drool over you!

Can I dye my extensions?

Yes you can. Again it is always best to get your hairdresser to do this for you. They have higher quality hair dye and will be able match your hair color up more precisely. It is always best to do a small sample section first.

Can I sleep in my extensions?

It is not advisable to do this. The clips may make it very uncomfortable for you to sleep. You can try it yourself.

Can they be straightened or curled?

Yes you can. But as with your natural hair always use heat protect products on your extensions to keep them healthy and shiny and to help them last longer.

Can I use products in my hair extensions?

Yes you can, any products that are suitable for your head will be fine with your extensions.

 Multicultural Hair Types

The Orlando Rivera Consultancy is able to provide professional hair extensions for all ethnicities and hair types; whether Caucasian, Indian, Afro-Caribbean or Asian/Oriental. Due to our large, diverse and ever expanding client base, we are the number one supplier in different hair textures, lengths and types and aim to give all our clients, no matter what type of hair, the look they have always wanted.

Below is our full and varied range of hair extensions to suit you and your hair.

Europe Grade Hair

This is the most popular choice for its soft natural feel and extensive color range. This type of hair will dry with a natural wave. All the hair is pre-dyed to match a color chart from which we can match a client’s hair. Ethically sourced hair.

Indian Temple Hair

A very popular choice as the hair quality is excellent but not quite as good as the Euro Hair. There is a more limited color range on this type of hair and you can expect that it will dry with a natural wave. All the hair is pre-dyed to match a color chart from which we can match a client’s hair. Ethically sourced hair.

Russian & Ukrainian Virgin Hair

This is the most exclusive, beautiful and rare type of hair as it has not been dyed or chemically treated in any way. The color range is limited and may have to be dyed to match individual client’s requirements.

Curly Hair

The color range is limited in this hair type and may need a color treatment to match your hair. This hair type can sometimes be the most suitable for Afro-Caribbean hair. We are also able to offer, upon request, simulated, relaxed Afro-Caribbean hair.

It is highly recommended you have free test extensions applied during your consultation so we can test the suitability of your hair.

 Ethically Sourced Hair

We offer several hair types.

The vast majority of hair used at Orlando’s for applying our professional hair extensions is from all over the world.  We take the most advanced techniques and your own hair to determined which one is the most suitable for you.

Indian Temple Hair

Indian temple hair is the most ethically sourced hair in the world. This hair is collected from temples and then sold to hair merchants all over the world for processing, and where needed, also coloring. After visiting various sorting factories around the world we found the factories we procure our hair supply from are both ethical and professional; both with their staff and procedures.

Our two most popular hair types, Indian hair and Europe Grade Hair, are both actually procured from these temples. The Euro grade hair is refined a little more than the Indian hair and is called Europe grade because the hair shaft diameter and structure closely matches typical European type hair.

Virgin and Curly Hair

The Virgin hair and curly hair accounts for only 3-5% of our hair extension demand. The sources for this type of hair are more difficult to track and our research seems to suggest that it generally comes from small local hair merchants around Russia, Eastern Europe and Brazil.

 The FACTS about Hair Extensions

MYTH: Hair Extensions damage your hair

FACT: When hair extensions are applied properly there is virtually no reason why they would damage your hair, and to this end thousands of women have used extensions to grow their own hair to a desired length with no adverse effects whatsoever.

However, that is not to say everybody’s hair is suitable for extensions. At Orlando’s we take the safety of your hair very seriously and take every reasonable precaution to ascertain the suitability of your hair before commencing with salon-applied hair extensions. This includes a free consultation and free test extensions as well as complimentary check up appointments while you are wearing the extensions.

Whether or not you are wearing hair extensions, everybody experiences hair shedding. This is entirely natural. If you should ever count them, you will notice on your hairbrush, whether you wear hair extensions or not, that you shed between 70 to 100 hairs a day – adding up to around 3,000 hairs a month or 36,000 a year. It seems a lot but on average we have at least 100,000 to 150,000 hairs on our heads alone, so this rate of growth and renewal is entirely normal.

MYTH: You have to give your hair a break in between having hair extensions

FACT: If hair extensions are properly applied and removed, your hair will remain undamaged, and so there is no need to take a break between different hair extension applications. Most people prefer to have their extensions removed and replaced on the same day, so their hair continues looking as good as ever.

MYTH: You can’t swim wearing hair extensions

FACT: Your new hair will look, as fabulous wet as it does dry, and the extension joins will not show in water. You can shower, swim and go out in the wind and rain without having to worry.

MYTH: You can’t have extensions in if your hair is fine

FACT: In fact, many women with fine hair choose to use hair extensions to add extra volume. Extensions can be done as fine as a few strands of hair to be virtually undetectable and if they are done properly with test extensions done beforehand, there is virtually no chance of any damage to the hair.

MYTH: You can’t brush and style easily with hair extensions

FACT: As long as you use the right brushes, such as soft bristle hair brushes like Marquesa (LINK) Brushes, then you can brush right into and through the roots with no damage to your hair or the extensions. You can also use straightening irons and curling tongs all through the hair so long as you are careful to avoid the bonds.

Following this advice, there should be no issues at all from using a steam rooms while you have hair extensions.

MYTH: You can’t keep up your highlights and root color when the hair extensions are in

FACT: Actually you can still do highlights as these are usually done with foils and you simply work around the extensions. When dying roots the color has to be applied carefully to the roots simply taking care to avoid the bonds.

MYTH: Hair extensions hurt when you are wearing them

FACT: For most people there is no discomfort at all which is why millions of people enjoy wearing hair extensions. However, there will always be a few people who have exceptionally sensitive scalps, which is why it is always advisable to have test extensions before having them put in.
